Anjung Mall

Has anyone been to Anjung Mall? Actually it’s been around for quite some time, just that a few months back, the opening of a new departmental-store-cum-supermarket Bazaar Mydin, has brought more crowd to the place than ever before.

Map location (near Nusajaya Centre)

Check out the foodcourt there. There’s a Kabob Station foodstall which sells delicious Middle Eastern food. Do try the burgers.

Had dinner at Sutera Mall on Wednesday night. Checked out the roasted duck at Meng Meng Roast Duck (阿明帝皇鸭), not bad at all. A plate of roasted duck rice will set you back by RM5.50. (sorry, didn’t take any photos)

Address: 82, Jalan Sutera Tanjung 8/4, Taman Sutera Utama, 81300 Skudai, Johor
Along the same row of shops as Weiss Flora & Gifts (see map).

We proceeded for dessert at Tian Yuan Dessert Hut (甜元) which is a couple of shops away, along the same row of shophouses. Wanted to try the sesame cream (芝麻糊) and peanut cream (花生糊) but both were sold out. So we selected Ah Balling Ginger Soup instead (汤圆姜汤). Pretty good I’d say, the ginger essence is strong and we were given 2 sesame Ah Balling and 2 peanut Ah Balling. Will be back to try other dessert items on the menu.

Had a post-dinner leisurely walk around the area to explore what else is there. These 2 restaurants caught our attention. They’re just around the corner from Tian Yuan Dessert Hut, along Jalan Sutera Tanjung 8/4. (refer to above map)

Restoran Jepun

There’s a 15% discount for Citibank card holders from now till 31 December 2010. So those of you who are Citibank cardholders, don’t miss out on this offer. Let me know if the food is good ok?

Life Cafe (人间茶坊)

This cafe has a unique Taiwanese feel to it, with the bamboo stems and wooden tables/chairs. The menu contains mostly Chinese tea varieties and cold drinks, though it does serve main dishes and snack food as well. It would be a nice place to chit chat with friends.

Just had lunch today at “Chemystery”, the restaurant at Ledang Urban Retreat. That’s the East Ledang clubhouse I was referring to in my previous post.

Here’s the map for Ledang Urban Retreat, taken from their very own website. (click on the map to go direct to “Ledang Urban Retreat” website.)

We tried 3 different dishes (names below may not be accurate):

1. Nasi Goreng Ayam Jiwa

2. Can’t remember the name but it resembles a Mexican-Malaysian chicken taco roll.

3. Ayam Gerek

This came very much later (think the chef had forgotten about the order).

We also had Puteri Sembutong which is somewhat like ice kachang topped with a single scoop of vanilla. It was not bad either. Apologies for not showing the photo as I had forgotten to taken a snapshot of the dish before it disappeared down my belly.

Conclusion: Overall presentation of the food is not bad but I’d recommend that one selects local Malaysian food (i.e. choice #1 and #3) as the chefs seem to be more experienced in local food. Western food is something they truly have to improve upon.

Would I recommend this place? Sure…the ambience is great for a lazy Sunday lunch. Have suggested to the restaurant to serve set lunch so do look out for it.

Here’s a cosy air-conditioned restaurant I visited recently. It serves pretty good bittergourd soup which is known to be nutritious and has health properties. (Go google “bittergourd” for more information) Go check this out.
